Jan 12 - Former Utah Celtic FC and BYU teammates Brecken Mozingo and Jamie Shepherd were drafted Friday evening in the 2024 NWSL Draft. Both players played for Steve Magleby and won the 2019 USYS U19 National Championship together. Mozingo started her collegiate career at UCLA before transferring to BYU in 2020, where she and Shepherd spent four years together. Jamie played in 108 matches for BYU, more than any other player in school history. Mozingo led BYU with 14 goals and 15 assists in 2023, and the pair helped get BYU to the Final Four. In 2022, they made the Elite Eight and in 2021 made it to the NCAA College Cup Final.

Brecken was selected by the Utah Royals with the 4th overall pick, becoming the highest ever pick by a Utah Celtic FC alum and the highest ever from BYU as well. Jamie was selected 30th overall (Third Round) by Bay FC. The Royals and Bay FC are both expansion teams in 2024.

Five BYU players were drafted this year, with two headed to expansion side Utah Royals.
