Celtic Storm to Utah Celtic FC (1983-1990)
Rangers and Celtic become one club
national champions
In 2019, the 2000 Utah Celtic FC Girls coached by Steve Magleby became the first team from Utah to win a USYS National Championship when they smashed Lou Fusz 9-1 in the U19 Final in Missouri. Seven girls scored during the match as they smashed their opponent on the way to victory.
From that team, many went on to play Division 1 soccer throughout Utah and the country, including schools like BYU, UCLA, UVU, Utah State, Utah, Minnesota, and more. Several others played JuCo soccer as well and transferred to Division 1 schools later as well.
"These girls have had a goal to do this for a long time now. They've come close a couple years ago and it's just awesome to see them come full circle." - Steve Magleby
Not only did these players bring home the first ever Utah USYS National Championship, but several went on to have excellent collegiate careers. Brecken Mozingo was a finalist for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy, and was drafted fourth overall by the Utah Royals in the 2024 NWSL Draft.
2021 - NOW
In 2021, we made the decision to combine the boys side of Utah Rangers into the Utah Celtic FC name to make one united club. While the boys and girls had been a part of the same club for many years, the decision to merge into one name took many years and hard decisions. The boys donned the green for the first time in 2021!
2021 was a big year for the girls as well. In Spring 2021, Utah Celtic FC became the first Girls Academy League club from Utah to participate in the league. And in year one, there was instant success. The Utah Celtic FC GA teams qualified for the Champions Cup in the first season of league play in the Girls Academy as one of the Top 2 clubs in the conference. Utah Celtic FC repeated its Champions Cup qualification in year two as well!
In 2023, Utah Celtic FC joined the USYS Elite 64 National League, the top league in the USYS system. In year one, the 2011 boys coached by Steve Magleby became Northwest Conference Champions, going undefeated in their season.
In summer 2023, Utah Celtic FC won its second USYS National Championship, and the first on the boys side! The 2008 boys coached by Matt Bradley became U15 National Champions when they beat SC Wave 5-1 in the final. Blake Stuart’s led with a four-goal performance, while Brooks Barker added one of his own to cement one of the best performances in club history.
